Barbara Nye:
Barbara Nye is originally from Texas. Her travels in many countries and her experiences living in South America and Canada have had a strong influence on her artwork. She has an honours degree in Spanish and Latin American studies from the University of Texas at Austin and is fluent in Spanish. Barbara has lived in Australia for over 25 years, has been an Australian citizen since 1992, and raised her three children there. A visual artist originally from Texas, Barbara Nye has lived in Australia for over 30 years. She makes her home in lush subtropical southeast Queensland and spends every spare minute in her studio creating art inspired by the vivid colors of nature and by the simple rhythms of life. Barbara is the author-illustrator of Somewhere a Bell is Ringing, a bedtime picture book inspired by her world travels. It is a 2018 Paterson Prize for Books for Young People Honor Book. Barbara's childhood on a Texas farm as the seventh of eleven children inspired her to write and illustrate Zadie and the Stripey Sock, which presents a light-hearted look at a child's ordeal so common in big families: the struggle to be heard amid the chaos of busy family life.
